Tailored Learning for Success
With a focus on the whole child and individual learning styles, the program is designed to provide the specific interventions needed to help them reach their full potential. Research based strategies and best practices along with explicit instruction are used to support students. Current LEAD students will have first priority for available sessions.
Professional Team
The LEAD program is staffed with fully credentialed specialists in the subject areas they support. Additionally, the team includes specialists with advanced training in Orton-Gillingham-based systems, which are multisensory, structured language approaches to teaching reading and writing.
Program Structure and Services
As needed, students may receive assessments ranging from informal observation to in-depth analysis of their strengths/gaps in meeting academic and developmental expectations. The assessments may result in either basic classroom support (Level 1) or recommendations for intensive support (Level 2-3) to strengthen the student’s skill set for success and for lifelong learning. Support will be integrated into the school day through collaboration with the student’s classroom teachers.
The student will be supported in the classroom as determined by the teachers and the Learning Center team.
The student Interventions and support are provided in the general education classroom and in the LEAD center.
The focus of the intensive support session is to provide explicit instruction through a multi-sensory approach in literacy.
Occupational Therapists, Speech Language Pathologists, Behavior Specialists, Educational Psychologists, Reading Specialists and Academic Tutors can be recommended to provide assessment and support.
- Speech/Language Therapy: Students’ specific speech and language needs are identified through a brief screening followed by a full evaluation as needed. Therapy will focus on the specific goals and needs of each individual student.
- Occupational Therapy: There are three main focus areas for occupational therapy: sensory, visual motor, and fine motor. Occupational therapy will focus on specific areas of concern as determined by a full evaluation.
